Microsoft Word Add-In: Mac (Desktop) Setup

This article covers how to set up the GivingData Add-In for Microsoft Word and corresponds with Phase 1b: Client Instructions in the Microsoft Word Add-In: Integration Checklist. These steps must be completed by each user intending to use the add-in.

Microsoft Office 2016 or later is required to install this add-in.

 

In this section, you will first download a manifest file from your GivingData site, and then save it in a specific location on your computer.

  1. In your GivingData site, click the gear icon in the navigation menu. 
  2. Click Word Add-in.

  3. Click Download Manifest to download the file to your computer.download manifest button
     
  4. Open your Mac's hard drive by pressing Shift+Command+C.
    • If it does not appear, press Shift+Command+. (period) to display hidden folders.
  5. Open the Users folder, and then open the folder with your username.username folder
     
  6. Open the Library folder, open the Containers folder, and then open the Microsoft Word folder.
    • If you cannot find the Library folder, it may be hidden. To find the hidden folder, hold down the Option key to display hidden folders.
    •  Another option is to open a Finder window by pressing Command + F. Navigate to the Mac hard drive by pressing Shift+Command+C, and then press Shift+Command+. (period) to display hidden folders.

  7. Open the Data folder, open the Documents folder, and then verify that there is a folder titled “wef” inside it.
    • If this folder does not exist, create it now. wef folder
       
  8. Copy the manifest (.xml file) downloaded from your GivingData site into the wef folder.manifest file

In this section, you will first copy the API key for your GivingData user profile, and then enter it into the Microsoft Word add-in.

  1. In your GivingData site, click your initials in the navigation menu, and then click Profile.
  2. Click Integrations.

  3. Click Create API Key if you have not already done so, and then click Copy to Clipboard.copy to clipboard button
     
  4. Open a new Microsoft Word document.
  5. Click Add-Ins, and then click GivingData in the My Add-Ins section. givingdata option
     
  6. Click the GivingData Merge Fields icon in the header bar.merge fields option
     
  7. Paste the API key you copied from your GivingData site into the API key field, and then click Connect.connect button
